A lot of people were killed. And a lot of people had to run away from the war.
About 200,000 of the people who fled are living in refugee camps in Chad, which is next to Sudan.
(Drawings collected by Human Rights Watch. Used by permission.)

The refugees have a very hard life in the camps. The women have to go looking for firewood to cook for their families.
But most of the trees are gone, so the women have to go looking for wood far away from the camps, and they are unprotected.
This is very dangerous for the women, and many have been attacked.
