The people of Darfur are having a tough time right now, but they're strong and resourceful. With our help, they will return to the full and peaceful lives they led before the war.
For $30, we can provide a family in a refugee camp with two solar cooker kits. This means that women and girls don't have to go looking for so much firewood, and their chance of being attacked goes down at least 80%. As the women learn to make their own solar cookers, we're providing them with jobs, income, and a new status in their communities. In our time of mass communications, from newspapers to newsreels to radio to television to the Internet, we have failed to stop one genocide after another. And we knew about them while they were happening! That is why, with these innocent people suffering before the eyes of the world, this 12-year-old says, "Not on my watch. I will not stand idly by." And I'm asking you to join me. Because if I can do it, anybody can. |
